Can Water Make You Lose Weight ?

Can water make you lose weight? Technically yes! There are plenty of water fasting diets that are popular right now and the simple act of drinking cold water every day burns calories. Here are a couple of the ways in which water make you lose weight.

Drinking cold water helps your body burn calories. The reason drinking cold water make you lose weight is that cold water needs to be warmed up to match the body's temperature before it can be digested and absorbed. The water itself has no caloric value, but your body has to burn calories to create the energy it needs to warm up the water. This means that you are burning calories but not replacing them with new ones. Some scientists say that just by drinking some cold water every day you can lose up to five pounds per year, even if you do not change any other part of your daily routine. If five pounds isn't enough, one way you can increase the amount of weight you lose (though, granted, not by much) is to replace your other beverages with cold water. This way you are both cutting the amount of calories you take in every day (sodas and coffee often have extremely high amounts of calories) but you are increasing the amount of calories you burn each day.

Another way that water makes you lose weight is through something called a water fast. A water fast is when you stop eating solid foods and only drinks water for a specified period of time. Fasting is sometimes used as a way to kick start a regular diet program but it isn't something to be entered into lightly. Fasts can be very hard on the body, though they are a fantastic way to help rid the body of its toxins. People can lose as much as one pound per day that they are on a fast and a person can fast for up to a month before they put their bodies in danger.

There is a diet on the market right now that is called the Master Cleanse which is actually a fast, but involves more than water-people drink a mixture of lemon juice, water, and cayenne pepper a few times a day, drink thirty two ounces of salty water in the morning and a cup of laxative tea at night. People can lose a lot of weight through this diet even though it is really more of a toxin cleanse.

Water itself acts as an appetite suppressant and if you drink as much water each day as you need to, you might soon find that you simply do not feel as hungry as you used to feel when other types of beverages were your first choice. Drinking water also keeps your body from retaining it, which means that you will lose your "water weight."

It is possible for water make you lose weight, but it isn't something that you want to try without doing your research-particularly fasting. Make sure you get your daily requirement of water and talk to your doctor about the rest of your program.
